The Mask

The government has made masks compulsory to prevent the spread of the disease, but many of us have been wearing masks for a much longer period. These masks are invisible. We wear it every morning and take it off only when we go to bed. Many of us might take it off at home where we can be ourselves, but it's often removed only partially. They say 'the face is the index of the mind', but with this mask all feelings are locked up and kept hidden. Emotions are hidden behind this great pretense of a mask for various reasons. Showing your true self to the world is hardly an option anymore. These masks can either be      i) A happy mask                                  ii) No expression/Neutral mask                         ...

A Lyrical Life

Life is an unsung song which will sometimes sound like a major chord (happy) and at other times, a minor chord(sad). The major chords and minor chords in a song is what makes a song sound beautiful. In the same way life has its happy and sad moments. The sad moments in life help us savour the beauty of the happy ones.                                I was always told that I had to be the lyricist of my own song, the author of my own life and I lived my life like that for a long time. But I soon came to realiz e that I was totally wrong. When I tried hard at writing the song, there was always something missing. When I tried to sing it, it sounded like I was singing off-key. When I was on the verge of giving up, I realized I ne...

Quarantine

Secluded, all alone, Within these four walls, With no one to say 'Hello' to, And no one to say 'Goodbye'. Trying to stay calm, In the midst of this chaos, Just wishing it would pass, Like any other storm. I looked around, And all I saw was, Heartache, anguish, And utter gloom. Fear gripped me, As everything seemed to fall apart, Suddenly, I remembered, I could do only one thing. I knelt down, And surrendered everyt hing to God, And He turned my despair, Into unspeaka ble joy. I felt happiness envelope me, And expected everything to change, Back to the way it was, But I was utterly wrong. Then He o pened my eyes, And I saw the world, In the palm of His hands, And He reminded me He was in control.

House of cards

Elle awoke one morning and looked at the house of cards she had spent so much time building the previous night. It takes meticulous effort and skill to build a house of cards. After spending a long time she decided it was finished and fell asleep in exhaustion. This house of cards had been able to stand on its own through the night and she felt happy at what she had accomplished. Carefully she opened the door of her apartment but one whiff of wind sent her night's work toppling down. She set her mind to it and tried again, but again the wind came tossing it all across the room. She was utterly disappointed. As she picked up the cards she thought about how a single card could not stand alone. She always felt she didn't need anyone and was better off on her own, b...

Friends: The Curtains of Life

Friends are curtains, Who oftentimes, Let in the scintillating sun, To brighten our day.  Their vivid colours, Are displayed outwardly,  When they are happy,  Angry or scared. They are a shade,  Protecting us from the heat, Rain and cold, Of this frightening world around us. They make any place,  Feel like home,  Keeping us safe from the worries,  Of the world outside. We draw them close, During a storm hiding behind them, And when the raging passes over, We peep over their shoulders. Choose them wisely,  Or they'll let the heat through,  Moving away with the wind,  When we need them the ...

Pursuit

No one, Had the answers, To the questions, That pounded my brain, And so I ran, To the mountains, Hoping to find Him, On the highest cliff. I ran,  To the ocean, Hoping to see Him, On the beach. I ran, And plunged deep, Hoping to catch a glimpse, Breathless underwater. Tired,  I returned home, Feeling hopeless, unloved, And fell asleep. "Don't run anywhere, I live in your heart dear" I heard a voice say, And that answered all my queries. The one within me, Never leaves me, Holds me by my hand, And now I can face the world.
