Are You Blessed?

The 2012 christian hit song 10,000 Reasons by Matt Redman puzzled me greatly with its first line- 'Bless the Lord, oh my soul'. 'How can we bless the creator of the universe who has everything?' I thought. Up until then, the word 'blessing' to me just meant having God's favour, being prosperous, and fortunate. All materialistic things- good health, financial steadiness, talents etc.

But the word 'bless' in the bible has three different meanings

i)To speak well of
ii)To consecrate
iii) To worship

To bless the Lord means to praise Him and worship His holy name. So to bless someone means to praise them. Which implies that the commonest phrase "God bless you" can also mean that you need to have a character like Job's so that even God will boast about you to the devil.

Wait don't panic. This characteristic isn't a thousand miles away. For God to boast about you, you just need to reflect Jesus in your life. When God sees you, He needs to see His son, whom He is proud of.

When Jacob was blessed by the angel he was limping in pain as his hip was out of joint. He was given a new name 'Israel' and he was the father of that entire nation. But with that new name came a new limitation in his life. The past year definitely made many of us doubt if we were blessed, if we were under God's protection etc. Many of us were hurt physically, many felt the pain of the loss of a loved one, and many struggled to hold on to sanity in isolation. But through all the affliction we faced we were refined like gold to become pure and much stronger than before. Like Jacob, through this pain God wants to bless us, give us a new name.

Waiting on the Lord: From Restlessness to Rest

Isaiah 40:31 "But those who wait  on the LORD Shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles, They shall run and not be weary, They shall walk and not be faint."           Patience is a great virtue, but it has never been my cup of tea. I have always struggled to sit still or remain idle, which made it especially difficult for me to truly surrender everything into God’s control. Yet, when faced with important life choices and uncertainty about how to move forward, I realized that the Lord, who created heaven and earth, is a far better planner than I could ever be. He knows each of my days before even one comes to pass, so why not entrust my life into His capable hands?           With this realization, I decided to wait for His direction, understanding that His ways are higher than mine and that He leads us through experiences that always result in growth and learning. Waiting on the Lord, I discover...

Change Our World!

The great big Earth, Is too huge to  fathom , And its inhabitants so varied to  comprehend  . 'Change the world' is the slogan, And each blamed the world, For not changing around them. To change the world, We must first initiate it, A tiny gesture amongst our own loved ones. The whole world may be too hard, But changing how each person treats the next person, Can positively impact the world at large. Making the world a better place has been the vision for centuries. But everything happening around us discourages us to believe that something like that so phenomenal can happen to heal our broken world. Tell your loved ones, people you meet not about the flaw or wrong they've done but appreciate them for all they've done right. Pray for all the people in authority to be blessed with Godly wisdom to lead His people in the right path. And lastly find out your own passion, your purpose which can be instrumental as the church of Christ unites to change the world at large. Let...

Syncing News and Prayer

It has been nearly four years since I last picked up a newspaper, but in the past month, I decided to take up the habit once again. This return reminded me of the reasons I had initially given it up: the hurt, the hypocrisy, and the overwhelming deluge of information that often felt more like "infotainment" than actual news. Some days, the pain and suffering depicted in the articles were so overwhelming that I struggled to finish reading. I worried that I would become desensitized, reducing extraordinary tragedies to mere phrases like "it's normal" or "that's life." In moments of despair, I turned to Psalm 55:22, which says, "Cast your burden on the Lord..." and I endeavored to do just that. A Divine Perspective      The Lord is always faithful, and He gently reminded me that each article in the newspaper represents real people—individuals for whom Jesus Christ, our Savior, sacrificed His life on the cross. Each person, whether a vic...
