'From your valentine' are three simple words that has continued to puzzle generations of people about its owner. Well the word Valentine also has some pretty puzzling history to it. According to history two people named Valentine were martyred on February 14th in 3rd century AD, by the then Roman Emperor Claudius. ( One is not documented in history, the other popular one is recounted here) St.Valentine to whom this day is associated refused to deny Christ, helped Christians escape torture from the roman prison and was thus beheaded. The first Valentine's Day was a day when a catholic priest was killed for showing compassion and love for his fellow Christians. It is also accounted that he healed the jailer's daughter. His love for them was symbolic, as he showed Agape love ie sacrificial love for the prisoners. Jesus showed His love for us by sacrificing himself for us. As we celebrate this Valentine's day, let us not focus on the superficial elements like outer beauty, gifts, flowers etc but strive to be more Christ like. Finding true love in a world of ego, hatred and jealousy can be a herculean task but if each one of us attempt to be loving and caring, letting go of our selfish ambitions then we can be a beacon of hope to this desolate world.
Every living thing from a sapling to a human wants to be loved, feel cared for, and feel like they are needed. So as we celebrate this day of love, let us forget our differences and our 'I' factor and spread love from the bottom of our hearts to everyone around, as every single person is worthy of being loved. Reconcile with old enemies, forget the reason you first started fighting, and reconnect to those you've lost touch with. A kind word, a heartfelt thank you or just smiling eyes can show someone that they are loved. Be the reason for someone to believe that true love exists and thereby become ambassadors of Christ in this world where love is shown but hardly felt.
P.S Jesus loves you, He has loved you from your mother's womb and will love you till your dying breath and after. The world may say that you don't fit into their definition of beauty, but God formed you, and He thinks you're beautiful.
If the maker of the northern lights created you, aren't you beautiful?
